Bay Area Neurology came to us for assistance with technical issues and questions they needed resolved, as well as for some hardware upgrades to their existing system. They asked us to evaluate their current system for security, redundancy, HIPAA Compliance, and EHR readiness, as well as to repair some malfunctioning computers and a faulty backup system. After a careful analysis, we laid out a plan for upgrading and repairing their current system.

Their upgrade started with the installation and migration of all data to a new central server responsible for both Active Directory and their Project Management Software. Several backups and great care were taken along the way, as it turned out that their backup software had not performed a backup in several years. Once all the data and PM system was migrated to the new server, dated equipment was replaced and malfunctioning systems repaired. Users were setup on new HIPAA compliant accounts, and the system was tested for EHR readiness. Shared drives and a paperless system were put in place to improve office efficiency, and all providers were setup on an E-prescription system in time for the CMS E-prescribing deadline. Training was provided to all members of the staff and each provider for the new system, and a technician was on site for two days after the initial install to assist users with the transition. All installations were completed over a weekend to avoid patient hours.
